Continuing along with our January theme of bringing more money into your business, in this post we are going to look at ways to attract more leads (who will then hopefully turn into paying customers)! If you caught our first post on this topic, you know how critical mindset is to business success. Now that you’ve had some time to consider how your mindset may be affecting your approach as an entrepreneur, let’s take a look at how to harness that energy and use it to reach out to new leads!

4 Ways To Get New Leads

Getting and retaining customers is critical to long-term business success, but many small business owners struggle to attract new customers once that first flush of customers stabilizes. The good news is that there are always more people out there – you just need to know how to reach them. I’ve got 4 ideas to get you started.

  1. Mine Your Email List. Do you collect emails from customers? If not, you should. Every. Single. Time. Email marketing is a terrific way to stay in touch with frequent and not-so-frequent customers. Even if someone shops in your storefront just once, if you can capture their email, you’ve got a chance to get them coming back for more at a future date.
  2. Get Out There. You need to be your business’ #1 advocate. Sign up to speak at conventions and events, host a webinar, offer internships or mentoring to local students, get involved locally. Every time you speak or provide a service somewhere, collect names on a sign-up sheet if you don’t have access to registration data.
  3. Offer Freebies. Offering something for free is a great way to attract attention to your business. This technique is used so frequently that it has its own name: lead magnet. Offer a free resource on your website or coupons for use at your storefront in exchange for contact information.
  4. Mix and Mingle. What are you doing in terms of marketing yourself or your business? Sitting in your store or behind a computer won’t cut it forever. Go to a business expo, join the local Chamber of Commerce or service organizations, support the local schools and community – and bring the business cards with you every time. Where does your target audience spend their time? Start spending your time there too!

Organize Your Contacts

Once you have collected emails and contact information for potential new customers it’s vital to get that information organized and into a format that can be easily used to send out marketing materials.

Something as simple as an Excel spreadsheet will work for smaller businesses. Larger businesses will want to look into Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools but an even better investment (regardless of the size of the business) are email marketing solutions and services. These solutions can help you manage the data you collect, create and send out engaging emails, and track email performance. They are a huge timesaver and absolutely indispensable for anyone interested in email marketing.
